What to look for in a Gaming PC

With the rise of popular online gaming tournaments that consist of multiple players all over the world gaming hardware has topped the charts in terms of demand. Players are constantly looking for the ultimate gaming PC that will smoothen out their experience both offline and online. Games are really resource intensive and require dedicated hardware to meet this need. While some gamers will go the build your own pc route rather than buy, it is important to ensure you configure the components correctly to prevent overheating and ultimately starting a fire. The guidelines stated below apply generally to what to look for in a gaming pc irrespective of the build vs buy decision.

Cooling System

Things can heat up pretty fast when playing games for extended periods of time. Onboard electronics in a computer operate fairly at room temperature just fine. However if for some reason heat builds up and it not expended out of the unit, the circuits could get fried and eventually catch fire. All this can be avoided by firstly making sure that the vents to the CPU are not in any way blocked and that the internal cooling fans are running. If it’s a custom built PC make sure you invest in cooling hardware that ensures all the heat generated from gameplay is dissipated and the internal temperature maintained.

Lots of Memory

Games use up a lot of memory so buy a PC with good random access memory (ram) of around 16 GB depending on your gaming requirements. Using a computer with low memory will not work. The game will occasionally freeze and sometimes drag ruining the player’s experience. Try to invest in a PC with fairly good ram for smooth gaming. Take note of the ram type compatible with your system board as ram has types (for example DDR3) and frequency ratings.

Good graphics card

Developers of 3D games now spare no expense in creating real-life like graphics into their games. As computing hardware technology improves the games are also improving and almost becoming near real. The rendering of these rich life-like graphics requires a good graphics card. When building a custom gaming PC always check for compatibility with your system motherboard before buying the graphics card.

Powerful Processor

A game is just like any other computer application with processing needs. Due to the nature of games’ processing requirements, it is important to consider a PC with a powerful processor for it to keep up with other gaming hardware installed on the PC. A slow processor might ruin your gameplay by occasionally hanging or freezing entirely only to resume the game when it’s done.

External device support

The PC should have a good number of slots for external devices such as a usb joystick, audio speakers, microphone, webcam and any other devices a gamer may want to plug in. It is common these days for hardware shops to offer usb adapters that extend the ports on a PC.

Large size display

Games are nicer to play on bigger screens with High Definition (HD) resolution. Smaller screens are not so ideal for an immersive gaming experience. Some gamers opt to hook up their gaming pc to a high lumens projector then adjust the projector screen to the size of their liking.

Good hard disk drive space

It is a prerequisite for a gaming PC to have lots of local storage space. This is ideal especially for games that require installation onto the computer. These game files will be stored on the hard drive and depending on the type of game can be large going into the gigabytes. A hard drive of 1 terabyte capacity would be ideal for the current games on the market.
